Mini Movers, Tippy Toes Tots, Youth Dance and Tumbling

Mini Movers Summer: (Ages 2.5 to 3.5)

This program is designed as a very fun and upbeat introduction to dance. The curriculum approaches dance as making shapes, rhythms and plenty of imagination. Dance portion is 30 minutes long followed by 15 minutes of a coordination obstacle course and basic tumbling skills like “X” cartwheels, forward rolls, and pizza rolls. The use of props and visual learning tools add a fun and exciting learning method for this class.

Tippy Toe Tots: (Ages 3.5 to 4.5)

This Session approaches dance as making shapes, rhythms and plenty of imaginations to introduce beginner ballet technique through creative movement.   The use of props and visual learning tools add a fun and exciting learning method for this class. Dance portion is 30 minutes long followed by 15 minutes of a coordination obstacle course and basic tumbling skills like “X” cartwheels, forward rolls, and pizza rolls.

Suggested Attire:           

Females: Pink Leotard, Pink Tights and Pink leather ballet shoes (preferably no ties), skirt (optional)

Males:  White tee or athletic shirt & black shorts or black dance/athletic pants & black leather ballet shoes

Youth Dance & Tumbling: (Ages 4.5 to young 6-year-old)

1 hour class split between dance and acrobatics. Participants will experience a Ballet Warm-up and continue with Jazz basics followed by 30 minutes of tumbling to include strengthening & flexibility exercises as well as an intro to basic tumbling including forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheels, bridges, handstands and headstands.

Females: Bike-tard or leotard with shorts, tights optional, White Acro shoes preferred.  

Males:  White tee or athletic shirt & black shorts or black dance/athletic pants. Black or White Acro shoes preferred.

COMBO Dance: (Ages 5.5+)

Combo includes a 1/2 hr. each of ballet & jazz basics.

Acro Intro:  (Targeted age: 7)

45 minute class focused on proper technique, flexibility & strength to execute acro basics safely.   Participants will focus on mastering such skills as forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheels, bridge walk, handstands and headstands.

Females: Bike-tard or leotard with shorts, tights optional, White Acro shoes preferred.  

Males:  White tee or athletic shirt & black shorts or black dance/athletic pants & Black or White Acro shoes preferred.

Acro L1 continues with a focus on proper technique, flexibility & strength to execute acro skills safely.   Participants should have already mastered the following skills properly: forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheels, bridge walks, handstand and headstand at wall.  Curriculum will continue to include: 1 handed cartwheels, controlled handstand to a bridge, Back bends and more.

Males:  White tee or athletic shirt & black shorts or black dance/athletic pants & Black or White Acro shoes preferred.

Acro L2

Acro 2 continues with a focus on proper technique, flexibility & strength to execute acro skills safely.  Participants should have already mastered the following skills properly: forward rolls, backward rolls, 1 handed and overhanded cartwheels, headstands, backbend, round-off, handstand forward roll and 30 ft. continuous bridge walk.  Curriculum will continue and include: front limbers, kickovers, chest stands, elbow stands, and arabians. 

​

Suggested Attire:   

Females: Bike-tard  or leotard with shorts, tights optional, White Acro shoes preferred.  

Males:  White tee or athletic shirt & black shorts or black dance/athletic pants & Black or White Acro shoes preferred.

*Mondays 7:45 - 8:45 pm                                                                                          $110 for series         

 

Acro L3/L4

Acro 3 continues with a focus on proper technique, flexibility & strength to execute acro skills safely. Participants should have already mastered the following skills properly: great split, backward roll, 1 handed and overhanded cartwheels, headstands, backbend, round-off, handstand forward roll and 30 ft. continuous bridge walk, front limber, Kickover, Chest Stand and elbow stand for 8 counts, back arabian and chestroll.  Curriculum will continue and include Front walkovers, back walkovers, valdez, walk on hands 10 feet,16 count chest and elbow stands, intro to aerial & spring work.

Females: Bike-tard or leotard with shorts, tights optional, White Acro shoes preferred.  

Males:  White tee or athletic shirt & black shorts or black dance/athletic pants & Black or White Acro shoes preferred.

Acro L4+

Acro 4  (must also take ballet) continues with a focus on proper technique, flexibility & strength to execute acro skills safely.   Participants should have already mastered the following skills properly: both splits, backward roll, 1 handed and overhanded cartwheels, headstands, backbend, round-off, handstand forward roll and 30 ft. continuous bridge walk, front limber, kickover, 16 count chest & elbow stands, back arabian, chest rolls, front and back walkovers, valdez, hand walks, and a good understanding of aerial concepts.   Curriculum will continue and include, handsprings, side , front and back aerials, and beginner twisting skills - MUST take 5:45 Fitness Circuit Training & at least ONE ballet class

Suggested Attire:   

Females: Bike-tard or leotard with shorts, tights optional. No shoes needed.

Males:  White tee or athletic shirt & black shorts or black dance/athletic pants.  No shoes needed.

Ballet

The ballet program at Ovations focusses on proper posture, placement and alignment through a blend of Cicchetti, Vaganova and French styles.  Once the dancer achieves Ballet I/A level and up, the main ballet style taught is Vaganova.   Dancers ae placed in the appropriate level by technique and skill, not necessarily by age. Each level has a prerequisite of skills needed to enroll and follows a structured skill curriculum.

​

It is not unusual for a dancer to be in the same level 2 years in a row before progressing to the next level.  Usually, it takes about 8 to 10 years to progress from Beginner to Advanced.    If starting Beginner ballet at Ovations at age 6 going on 7, the typical progression is Beginner/Intermediate ages 7/8, Intermediate I, II & II is usually grade and middle school.   Ballet I/A & Adv. is by invite only.

Pointe

Intermediate & Advanced, All Pointe students must be at least 11years old, have a solid understanding of proper posture, placement and alignment as well as sufficient lower leg strength, good abdominal and trunk support & appropriate leg alignment.

 

Dancers in Ovations pointe program take a minimum of 2 ballet classes and 2 pointe classes a week during the regular and summer sessions as well as attend out Summer Back to Barre program or an equivalent pre-approved program.

Jazz

Jazz is a dance style that blends many traditional movements. This high energy dance has a liveliness that sets it apart from other styles.  Jazz dance studies at Ovations introduces dancers to a variety of jazz dance techniques including classical jazz, swing, pop, and Broadway styles and rhythms.

 

Jazz Beginner focuses on jazz dance topics including flexibility, walks, turns, leaps, jumps & history of movements.    Each level after (Beginner/Intermediate, Intermediate I, II & III, Inter/ Adv & Adv) dives deeper into to jazz topics.

 

Dancers are placed in the appropriate level by technique and skill, not necessarily by age. Each level has a prerequisite of skills needed to enroll and follows a structured skill curriculum.  Those in Jazz I/A and higher must also take Ballet. Ballet is highly recommended for all Jazz Dance levels.

​

It is not unusual for a dancer to be in the same level 2 years in a row before progressing to the next level. Usually, it takes about 8 to 10 years to progress from Beginner to Advanced.  If starting Beginner jazz at Ovations at age 6 going on 7, the typical progression is Beginner/Intermediate ages 7/8, Intermediate I, II & III are usually grade and middle school.

Tap

Tap dance is a style of dance requiring a special shoe to create audible beats by rhythmically striking the floor/hard surface.  

Tap Beginner Focuses on tap dance basics including most tap single and double sounds & beginner combinations. Each level after (Beginner/Intermediate, Intermediate I, II & III, Inter/ Adv & Adv) dives deeper into to the tap curriculum to include time steps, cramp rolls, turns, pull backs, pick-ups, wings and much more.

​

Dancers are placed in the appropriate level by technique and skill, not necessarily by age. Each level has a prerequisite of skills needed to enroll and follows a structured skill curriculum.

Hip HoP

Our hip hop classes combine many styles of hip hop from street dance to pop and lock. Ovations Hip Hop program has a strong emphasis on the history of the movement. 

​

Suggested Attire:  NO 2 piece outfits permitted at the studio.

All hip hoppers are asked to wear Black low top converse sneakers. Their hip hop sneakers should not be worn to studio.  Please bring them with you and put on when at studio.

​

Females:  Black or dark solid colored leotard, tights optional, with either black Sweats or dance pants/shorts.   

Males:  Athletic shirt and black athletic shorts or pants.

Lyrical

Lyrical is a fusion of Jazz and Ballet techniques expressing the lyrics of a song through dance interpretation.

 

All dancers enrolled in a Lyrical class must take a Jazz and Ballet class.
